Part XIV: 2007

As recounted in MWS 2006, we were joined by Scripps Florida as a cosponsor. Their chief scientist, Charles Weissmann, a cofounder of BioGen, and a former MWS awardee, proposed vaccines as the topic.

We eagerly embraced this. It was the first MWS at which our new Dean, Pascal Goldschmidt , was present to welcome the audience. He gave a talk entitled “The new Jenneration”.

The symposium was a scientific success, but we lost money . A significant part of our income was from the pharmaceutical industry. We discovered that pharma was not interested in vaccines. They were not a source of profit and few were interested in supporting a vaccine symposium.

What are the prospects for pharma interest in a Zika vaccine ?

Who was Edward Jenner?
